LELIA CARROLL
Lelia Murphy Carroll, 79, of 196 Valley Brook Lane, died, at her residence with her loving family at her side.
She was born in Alleghany County on October 10, 1928 to the late James and Zella Brooks Murphy, one of nine children.
Mrs. Carroll attended Watson School and later attended the Madam Walker School of Hair in Washington, DC. She was a faithful and devoted member of the Wrightsville Baptist Church where she was a Mother of the Church, Member of the Willing Workers, the Missionary Committee, the Adult Sunday School and the Senior Choir. She worked for many years in homes in Clearwater Park until her retirement so that she could take care and raise her grandchildren. Mrs. Carroll will always be remember as a woman after God's heart. She was a true example of a Christian with unbreakable fait.
Lelia was married to the Cleveland Carroll who preceded her in death in 1986.
Left to cherish her memory are seven children, Donna Carroll of Covington, GA; Cleveland Carroll, Cathy Carroll and Sherman Carroll, all of Covington; Michael Carroll and his wife Teresa of Clifton Forge; Christopher Carroll and his wife Valaria of Temple Hills, Maryland; and George Carroll and his wife Lesa of Covington, GA; 17 grandchildren, Anthony, Rhonda, Cassandra, Tara; DeVaughn; Michael Jr, ,Delmar, Sharon, Kym, Derrick , Deanna, William, Kayla, Christopher Jr., Ryan, Marquis and Isaiah; 6 great grandchildren, Anthony Jr., Alexis, Aleigha, Christian, Cameron and Zy'Kir; her sister, Mrs. Mabel Jordon and her husband, Lorenza of Covington; her bother, Paul Murphy of Clifton Forge; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Alice Jordan of Covington; a cousin, Mr. Carl Robinson of Columbus, OH; Nieces and Nephews whom she helped raise, Glendora, Raymond, Ruby, Russell and Linwood Hunter; three foster daughters, Mrs. Kim Wells of LA; Mrs. Linda Jordon of Covington and Mrs. Denise Johnson of Clifton Forge.
The funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, July 21, 2008 in the Wrightsville Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerome Basham officiating.
Follow the funeral service, in keeping with her wishes, Mrs. Carroll's body will be cremated.
The family will receive their friends Sunday evening from 7:00 until 8:00 PM at the Arritt Funeral Home .
