Thomas Eugene "Gene" Anshutz , 84, of 524 West Jackson Street died Saturday, March 26, 2011, in Lewis Gale-Alleghany Hospital at Low Moor.
Mr. Anshutz was born October 26, 1926, in Newark, Ohio, a son of the late Thomas Samuel and Maude Ellen Rose Anshutz.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Son, Timothy Anshutz, in 2000.
Gene was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War with the United States Marine Corps. He was Life Member of the Clifton Forge Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and of the American Legion Post #4 in Covington. He was a longtime member of the Benjamin Persinger Memorial United Methodist Church. He was an avid fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR racing. He had retired as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service at the Covington Post Office.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Miriam Goodwin Anshutz of Covington, an aunt and several cousins, and his extended family including his friend, John Fridley, of Roanoke, and caregivers Kenny and Sue McClung of Covington.
In keeping with his wishes, his body has been donated to medical science.
