BERLAND FRIDLEY Berland Albert Fridley, 89, of 412 Center Court, died, Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Fridley was born April 9, 1919 in Alleghany County, a son of the late John William and Johanna Armentrout Fridley. He served during World War II with the United States Army. Mr. Fridley retired from Westvaco Corp. in 1979 as a Tower Forman in the Woodyard after 41 years of employment. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Maxine Bess Fridley in 1995; a daughter Karen Fridley in 1954 and also by a sister, Beatrice Gibson. Surviving are his wife, June Stone Scott Fridley of Covington; four sons, Ray Fridley ; B.A. Fridley, Jr. and his wife, Debbie; Thomas "Bo" Fridley and his wife, Sue , all of Covington and David Fridley and his wife, Iva, of Rougement , NC; three daughters, Joyce Armentrout and her husband, Paul, and Jo Anne Paxton and her husband, Berkley, all of Covington and Kay Hicklin and her husband, Dean, of Millboro; two step daughters, Jean Wade and Carol Wolfe, both of Covington; one brother, John L. Fridley of Roanoke; nine grandchildren; six step grandchildren, a number of great grandchildren and step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 AM at the graveside in Lone Star Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating, assisted by the Rev. Ken Mason. Friends may pay their respects at anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home.
