Herbert Daniel “Bob” Carter, Sr., 85, of 214 Dusty’s Road died Monday morning, July 5, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Carter was born December 10, 1924, in Richlands, North Carolina, a son of the late James and Lillie Clark Carter.
He was a veteran of World War II with the United States Army Paratroopers where he was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He served in the African-Middle Eastern Theater and then moved into Italy with his unit.
He retired in 1978 from MeadWestvaco Corp as a Foreman on #6 & #7 paper machines after 35 years with the company. He was a member of the Curtis A. Smith Post #1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans, Covington Lodge #610. Loyal Order of Moose and the Covington Church of Christ. Bob loved the Atlantic Ocean beaches and always enjoyed fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Carter, Levi Herring Carter and Edgar “Eddie” Carter and five sisters, Rosa Lee Sheely, Ruby Futrell,
Sarah Marshburn, Margaret Melton and Bobbie Dean Carter.
Surviving are his Wife of 65 years, Dreama Arrington Carter, of Covington; four children, Bobbie Glaser of Covington, Herbert D. Carter, Jr. and his fiance’, Kathy Evans of Pelham, NC, Janet Martin and her husband, James, of Covington and Debbie Weese and her husband, Elmer, of Covington; a special friend, Cindy Jackson of Covington; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; six sisters, Rachael Price of Salisbury, NC, Catherine Byrd of Chinkapin, NC, Carrie Melton of Jacksonville, NC, Betty Lou Henderson of Rose Hill NC,Martha Moore of Chinquapin, NC and Delores Gosselin of Rocky Mount, NC; a number of nieces and nephews, his special caregivers, Dean, Judy, Heather, Russell and his dedicated Hospice nurses and aides.
Active Pallbearers will be Dean Martin, Keith Carter, Phillip Carter, Orland “Buddha” Clark, Steve Bowers, Dennis Lipscomb, Pat McPeek and Dean Lawhorn. Alternate will be Calvin Bryan Carter.
The family will receive their friends for one hour prior to service time Wednesday morning at Arritt Funeral Home.
