This is written by Joanne Thelen, the sister of Joe Vas Dias. Together with my husband, Bud, my daughters, Elizabeth and Christine, and my son, Thomas, we wish to extend our sympathies and prayers to all those who remember Joe for the very remarkable man he was. We have many happy memories from family gatherings in Virginia, Long Island, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. We always enjoyed the special company of Joe and Nell. We wish you Eternal Rest and Reward, Dear Brother. All your family remember you with the greatest love and respect.

“Those we love don’t go away, They walk beside us everyday, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear. “Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.” Uncle Joe, one of the kindest and most loving person I’ve ever known.

I have come to know Uncle Joe through Brian and Kathleen VasDias. A man of his word and a true gentleman. R.I.P. Uncle Joe

From my earliest memory Uncle Joe was always a part of my life! Our trips to Virginia & driving across the mountain from Hot Springs to Covington to visit Uncle Koe & Aunt Nell were always a great adventure! There was a log cabin restaurant on a mountain where we ate frequently...they had a stuffed bear standing on it’s rear legs scared the daylights out of me! And to make matters worse the were only outhouses! But the food was always delicious! Our trips over to the Homestead for dinner as well~. My Dad learned to swim in the indoor pool. My grandfather was employed as an accountant there~. Uncle Joe & Aunt Nell never had children of their own, but my Dad & his siblings provided enough niece’s & nephews to spoil! (& they did)! Both of them spoiled with every visit! The love, caring & laughter will be a sweet memory for the remainder of my life! Thanks for your kindness and the memories! May you Rest In Peace~

I know that words are inadequate at a time like this, but I wanted you to know how very sorry my family is for your loss. May you find comfort in God's promise at Isaiah 41:10.
