Mabel Wood Daugherty, 104, of 105 Sherry May St., died Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at her residence. She was born June 29, 1912 at Fordwick in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Howard Book Wood and Eva Cole Wood. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bernie Coats Daugherty in 1995 three sisters, Frenchie Snead, Gladys Key and Catherine Hilton; three brothers, Howard E. Wood, Emmett W. Wood and Everette G. Wood and one son-in-law, Kenneth S. Rice, Sr. Mrs. Daugherty was a sales clerk for 29 years at the former J.C. Penney in Covington. She was a member of the McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Little Page Sunday School Class. Michael Arnet "Mike" Andrews, 58, of 815 Potts Creek Road, died Tuesday July 12, 2016, at his residence. He was born September 26, 1957, in Covington, a son of the late Robert A. and Anna Lee Tingler Andrews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Brother, Ronnie Lee Andrews, in March of this year. Mike retired in 2013 from MeadWestvaco, as a Pipefitter after 35 years of service. He was a member of Covington Bible Church and of the Boiling Spring Ruritan Club. Mike was a Master Gardener and an avid hunter. He loved the game of baseball and was a coach with Covington Little League, the Blue Ridge Badgers and the Rip City AAU for a number of years. Bertha Ramsey Webb, 107, formerly of Covington, died Friday, July 8, 2016 at the Brian Center Nursing Center in Low Moor. Mrs. Webb was born May 1, 1909 near Goshen in Augusta County, a daughter of the late William P. and Maggie Pearl Eagle Ramsey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brown H. Webb in 1979; son-in-law Sam Armstrong in 1996; sisters, Grace VanSant and her husband Dr. Tom; Nita Kivlighan and her husband Ike; Anna Rose Ramsey; Jane Baker and her husband Keith; brothers, Guy Ramsey and his wife Grace; Walter Ramsey and his wife Margaret and a brother-in-law, Gordon Fortune. She was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church where, until her stroke in 2007, she was active in the Women of the Church, the Women's Circle and served as a Sunday School teacher. Norma Smith Tucker, 52 of 1145 Stuple Lane, died Thursday, July 7, 2016 at Lewis Gale-Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. She was born February 29, 1964 in Alleghany County, a daughter of Lillian Tucker Smith of Covington and the late Wandell Smith. Mrs. Smith was a former employee of the Deli Department at Wal-Mart. She also had been an employee of the former Halmode, Inc. in New Castle as well as the Dairy Queen in Covington. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Lacy Tucker, of Covington; two daughters, Mary Ellen Irvine and Michaela Tucker, both of Covington; four grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Alfred and Valerie Smith, of Covington; one sister and brother-in-law, Sandra and Timmy Wright, of Covington and several nieces and nephews. Ernest David "Skimp" Miller, 84, of 4301 Potts Creek Road died Monday, July 4, 2016, at his home. Mr. Miller was born February 13, 1932, in Alleghany County a son of the late John Henry and Ellen Bowen Miller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his Wife, Jessie "Birdie" Sizemore Miller, in 2012, and also by one Brother, Russell Miller, and one Sister, Gloria Bess. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War with the 50th Signal Battalion at Sendai, Japan. After the war, he worked as a mechanic for the T. L. Christian Motor Co in Covington until the business closed. "Skimp" kept the garage and had a repair shop there until 1980, when he moved to the present location on Lexington Street known as Covington Auto Repair. He was also the owner of Miller's Septic Tank Service since 1969. Mrs. Brookman was born November 26, 1956, in Prince Georges County, Maryland, a daughter of the late John William "Jack" Groves and Bertie Wolfe Rose Groves Burgess. Ray William Keen, Sr, 59, of 3620 Kanawha Trail died Wednesday night, June 29, 2016, in the University Of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. Mr. Keen was born September 26, 1956, in Greenbrier County, WV, a son of the late Junior and Margaret Masters Keen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him in their home, Woody and Madeline Masters; two brothers, Roy "Fish" Keen and Danny Keen and also by two sisters, Kay Ann Mabry and Jeannette Carola.
