Ronald Wayne Cale, Sr., 76, of Covington, died Thursday, September 21, 2023, at LewisGale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.
Ronald was born December 15, 1946, in Covington, a son of the late Virgil M. and Lillie Kay Cale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Smith Cale; four sisters, and five brothers. He worked as a forklift operator for Bacova Guild in Low Moor for many years. Mr. Cale served his country in the United States Army.
Surviving are two daughters, Cheryl Cale and Kerry Weade; two sons, Chipper Cale and Matthew Cale, all of Covington; one brother, Donnie Cale of Covington; two sisters, Judy Cottrell of Clifton Forge and Constance Gadd of Covington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

Evan was born September 11, 2008, in Lexington, VA and was preceded in death by his Papaw Charlie Noland and John Groves.
Evan was a strong young man, and he never gave up. He was an avid UVA fan, loved monster trucks and trains. He attended Alleghany Highland Public Schools.

Abraham “Abe” Wright, 82 years old, of Covington, Virginia passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on September 16, 2023. Abe was born on October 6, 1940 in Alleghany County, Virginia to Leslie Lewis Wright and Margie Lee Wright.

Roberta Graham Tingler, age 90, of Eagle Rock, VA, went to be with the Lord on Thursday at Roanoke Carilion Hospital, after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Nelson “Buck” Tingler who preceded her in death in 1993.
Born October 1, 1932, and was the daughter of the late Robert C. Graham and Mary Fox Graham. Roberta was a strong-willed independent lady and lived her life on her own terms. She gave her heart to Jesus many years ago and remained a faithful member of United Baptist Church. She was a caring and devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed being outdoors and spending time with her family. Roberta touched so many lives and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Leona was born April 16, 1937, in Clifton Forge, VA and was preceded in death by her parents the late Claudine Simmons Gooch and Thomas L. Broughman; her husband Samuel J. Wilhelm; an infant son, Marshall J. Wilhelm; a brother, Bobby L. Broughman; and a stepbrother, John E. Holston, Sr.
Ms. Wilhelm worked as a medical secretary at Lewis Gale Hospital Alleghany. She also was a Sunday School teacher at Emory UMC, member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Moose Lodge, Rebecca’s Lodge, and recording secretary for the Union at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital. William Lee Brookman, Sr., 64, of New Castle, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, following an extended illness.
Born on January 22, 1959, in Maryland, William was the son of the late Charles and Maude Wolfe Brookman. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert W. Brookman; and his sister, Christine Webb.
Known widely as Willie or Goo, William worked as a truck driver and diesel mechanic in Laurel, Maryland. He also served on the pit crews of dirt track racers Jimmy Skinner, Booper Bare, and C.S. Fitzgerald. A longtime resident of Paint Bank, Virginia, he was a devoted friend and neighbor to many in the community for over 25 years.

Calvin was born September 1, 1938, in Nelson County, a son of the late Clarence and Erma Lee Booth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Hepler Booth; an infant son, Jeffery Wayne Booth; a daughter-in-law, Diane Booth; a son-in-law, Rick Rapp; and his mother-in-law, Hazel Maxine Hepler.
Mr. Booth retired from the former AET in Covington as a machine operator and had previously been a delivery driver for the Peerless Creamery before it’s closing. Mr. Freddie Eugene Tucker, Jr., 80 of Covington, transitioned to his heavenly home early in the morning on August 23, 2023, with his family by his bedside. He was born June 18, 1943, in Covington, VA to the late Matilda Richmond Tucker and Freddie Eugene Tucker, Sr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister Anna Miller.
Mr. Tucker was a member and leader with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He retired from MeadWestvaco in 2006 as a Team Leader on #1 paper machine. He was active in the community as a former member of the Falling Spring Fire Department & the Falling Springs Rescue Squad Chaplain, served as Branch president of the Church and a Boy Scout Leader.

John was born October 19, 1955 in Covington, a son of the late John C. May, Jr. and Sylvia Slaton May. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Wayne May; one brother, Roger May; two sisters, Linda May and Jerry May; and his step-mother, Cynthia May.
John retired from Walmart as a door greater after more than 20 years of employment. A lifelong car enthusiast, John was a member of Kars Unlimited car club. He also volunteered for the Roanoke MDA Car Show as well as the American Cancer Society.

Ed was born October 5, 1966, in Rockingham, NC, and was preceded in death by his father, the late Charles Edward Hawkins, Sr.
For over 37 years, Ed was a project manager for Creative Nursery and Landscapes. Ed graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Building Construction.
