Carl Abijha Mann, 81, of 9300 Potts Creek Rd., died, Friday September 4, 2020 at his residence. Mr. Mann was born on August 16, 1939 in Washington, D.C., a son of the late Leroy S. Mann and Clara Mann. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one brother John Mann. Carl retired as a Lt. Colonel with the United States Army after 28 years and he served two tours in Vietnam. He was a real estate agent and instructor with Long & Foster Real Estate Co. in Roanoke for a number of years. Mr. Mann was a member of Pinnell Chapel United Methodist Church where he served as Lay Leader, and he was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute. Surviving is his wife of 51 years Celinda Dodson Mann of Covington, one daughter Tamy Mann of Covington, one son Michael Blackwell of Pearisburg, two granddaughters Reilly and Abriel Blackwell both of Pearisburg, Sharon Stacy of Blacksburg, and a number of nieces and nephews. Albert King "AL" Chapman, Sr. 59, of Clifton Forge, passed away Friday September 4, 2020 at his residence. Mr. Chapman was born August 8, 1961, in Roanoke, Va. the son of the late Joe and Isabelle Rickman Chapman. Al served in the United States Marine Corps Surviving are his wife, Terry Prior Chapman, of Clifton Forge; six children, two daughters, Samantha Bryant of Roanoke, Amber Chapman of Fl., two sons AL "Squiggy" Chapman II of Clifton Forge, Al "Buddy" Chapman, of FL., step daughter Jennifer Bailey of Clifton Forge and Daniel Chapman of Montvale, also surviving several grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews. James Michael Beaudette, 64, of 5002 Jackson River Road, died, Thursday September 3, 2020, at his residence. Mr. Beaudette was born February 9, 1956, in Fairbanks, AK, a son of Luella Buckman Beaudette of Hot Springs and the late John R. Beaudette who preceded him in death in 2020. James was a retired Deputy Director with the Office of General Counsel-HUD in Washington, DC. He had served with the United States Air Force and the U.S Army during the Vietnam era. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, the Alleghany Gun Club, and was chief of the Polling Precinct in King George, VA. He served on the Selective Service Committee Draft Board and was a member of NIMBS otherwise known as Operation Alliance and was issued a letter at the time from former Vice President George H. W. "May the work I've Done Speak for Me" Sadie Drew Stiney, daughter of the late Mr. Ollie and Mrs. Pearl Drew was born March 12, 1923 in Covington, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents and 11 brothers and sisters. At an early age she joined Pine Street Baptist Church in Covington, Virginia. Upon relocating to Hardeeville, SC, she joined St. Phillip Baptist Church, where she was a member for over 70 years. She attended Allegheny County school system where she graduated. As a teenager she worked various jobs around Covington, VA. Upon graduation from high school, decided to seek a career in the health field. She attended Burkeville School of Nursing were she obtain her Registered Nursing Degree and North Carolina Central University, in Durham, NC. Gloria Mae Dressler, of Covington, passed away on Wednesday August 26, 2020 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor. Gloria was born November 18, 1945 in Covington the daughter of the late Arnold and Goldie Sponaugle Dressler. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by special aunts and uncle Hazel and Lloyd Armstrong, five uncles, three aunts, and several cousins and her beloved little dog Gidget. Gloria was a life-long resident of Covington. She was a graduate of Covington High School and a graduate of Clifton Forge Covington Alleghany Division of VPI. Gloria Retired from MeadWestvaco in April 2009 as an administrative assistant for Product Development and Quality Assurance. After retirement Gloria worked at MeadWestvaco helping her previous job through the consulting firm CLEAR LLC. Gloria was a life-long member of Mt. Richard Wendell "Dick" Barner, 73, of 309 Jonestown Road died Wednesday, August 19, 2020, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke. Mr. Barner was born August 3, 1947, in Washington state a son of Richard L. Barner of Richmond. He was preceded in death by his Wife, Audrey Wright Barner in 2016 and by one brother. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War with the U.S. Marine Corps. He had retired as a designer for Acme Concrete Co. in Winchester. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife, Helen Craft Smith, five brothers and one sister. Della Bell Moore, 80, of Powhatan was welcomed with the open arms by her Lord and Savior on Sunday August 16, 2020. Mrs. Moore was born June 18, 1940 in Covington, the daughter of the late Clyde Bell And Marie Alfred Bell. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Theodore R. Moore, Jr. in 2015. She was a retired investigator with the Internal Revenue Service, and she was a graduate of Covington High School, Class of 1958, and had achieved enough credits for an associate degree. Della was a woman of Faith and attended Shiloh Pentecostal Holiness Church in Richmond. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. In addition to being an avid reader she was also a published author of the book When I Remember, I Remember When. William Danny Plymale, 79, formerly of Scott Hill Retirement Community, died, Friday August 14, 2020 in the Alleghany Health and Rehab. Mr. Plymale was born September 28, 1940 in Covington, a son of the late George Henry and Trusby Alice Taylor Plymale. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters Mary Sue Plymale Woodson in 2019, Nancy Craft, and an infant sister, and one brother George Plymale. Danny was an operator at the Wynn's Precision Inc. and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Madison Heights. He enjoyed playing the piano and auto harp as well as singing and was a member of the Facination Choir in Lynchburg. He loved to sit outside and watch it rain, fishing, and carpentry work. One of his favorite hobbies was playing Santa at the River Ridge Mall in Lynchburg. Mrs. Wright was born May 24, 1942, in Alleghany a daughter of the late Robert and Annie Hipes Powell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Leonard M. "Fox" Wright, in 2019.
Shirley was a longtime member of Mallow Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Covington High School in 1959 and had worked on every 1959 CHS class reunion. She had worked at the former Leggett Department Store for 16 years. She was devoted to her family and enjoyed arts and crafts, traveling and listening to music.

Tonya Monique Coles, 51, of Chesapeake, formerly Covington, died Wednesday, August 12, 2020, in Chesapeake Regional Hospital. She was born June 11, 1969, in Covington a daughter of Debbie E. Coles of Covington. She was preceded in death by her grandparents who helped raised her, Norwood and Ardelia Coles. Tonya worked at Food Lion in Chesapeake, she also was graduate of Covington High School. Surviving in addition to her mother are her companion, Larry Turner, of Chesapeake; three sisters Rhonda Coles of Waldorf, Md., Tieshia Ridley and her husband Mike of Virginia Beach and Kashay Coles of Covington. And Clarence Twitty of Covington. Also surviving number aunts ,uncles and nieces an nephews. A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 22, 2020, at 1:00 PM in Cedar Hill Cemetery with Elder Randall Allen officiating.
