Ann Ginger Tingler, 87, of 2021 Rugby Ave., died, Sunday, August 9, 2020, at The Brian Center in Low Moor. Mrs. Tingler was born May 4, 1933, in Covington, the daughter of the late John and Mary Webb Ginger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a Son, Kevin Tingler, Sr; a grandson, John F. Tingler; Daughter-in-law, Karen Tingler; Brothers, Johnny Ginger, Frank Ginger, Joe Ginger, Harry Ginger, and Tommy Ginger. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Good News Christian Fellowship. She loved baking, cooking, bowling, and being active with her church family where she was a mother figure to all. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, James W. Tingler, Sr; a daughter and son in law, Barbara and Kenny Armentrout; a son, J.W. Tingler, Jr, all of Covington; a granddaughter, Kimberly Tingler of Covington; two grandsons, J.C. Norma Kirby Kemper, 86, of 2042 S. Carpenter Drive died Saturday, August 1, 2020, at her home. Mrs. Kemper was born April 10, 1934, at Jordan Mines in Alleghany County a daughter of the late Samuel and Dora Chapman Kirby. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Paul Eugene Kemper, in 2016, one sister, Jessie Paxton, and four brothers, Gene Kirby, George Kirby, Lewis Kirby and Eddie Kirby. She had retired from the former H.O.Canfield plant in Iron Gate and was a member of Covington Bible Church. James Donald Richmond, 75, of 3616 Dunlap Creek Road died Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem. Mr. Richmond was born August 1, 1944, in Alleghany County a son of the late James V. Morris and Sadie Richmond Bowen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Diane Leigh Richmond, in 2014. He had retired as a mechanic with Bacova Guild. He was a member of Dunlap Christian Church and the Moss Run Hunt Club. He was a former member of the Covington Lodge #610, Loyal Order of Moose. Surviving are his Wife, Juanita Armentrout Richmond, of Covington; three Daughters and Sons-in-law, Wendy and Lenny Vail, Tracy and Bobby Davis, Jr., and Angela and Jonny Osbourne all of Covington; two Step-daughters, Leslie Hempler, of Pennsylvania and Kelly Tyree and her husband, Eric, of Clifton Forge; two Sisters, Jean Martin and June Ross, of Covington; 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Joel Patrick Goodwin, 65, of 206 N. High Ave., died, Tuesday July 28, 2020 at his residence. Mr. Goodwin was born May 31, 1955 in Covington, a son of the late Emmett and Barbara Toombs Goodwin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Rita Faye Meade Goodwin in 2018 and an infant sister Barbara Sue Goodwin. Joel retired from the paper machine at Westvaco in 2004. He was the owner of Goodwin Guns working as a gunsmith. Along with his job he was an avid outdoorsman and gardener, enjoyed making furniture and art, and golfing. He was involved in the former J.C. organization as well as the young democratic party in our area. Surviving are his son Chris Goodwin of Covington, a daughter Nicole Goodwin and fianc Aaron Pumphrey of Green Springs, OH, three brothers Jeff Goodwin and Charles Goodwin both of Covington and David and Peggy Goodwin of Richmond and two nephews and one niece. Mr. Shinault was born November 17, 1951, in Alleghany County a son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth Miller Shinault. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Evelyn Clark, six brothers James Shinault, Dennis Shinault, Donald Shinualt Sr. , McKinnley Shinault, Tollace Shinault, Jerry Shinault, and Raymond Shinault Jr.
He was a self-employed painting contractor. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. He was an avid outdoorsman, playing and coaching softball and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He loved playing jokes and spending time with family to include Ryan Shinault who was raised in the home and Whitney Nida as well as great grandchildren Dawson Nida and Brooklyn Shinault.

Wayne William Andrews Sr., 91, of Covington, died, Wednesday July 15, 2020 at Lewis Gale- Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. Mr. Andrews was born August 17, 1928, in Frost, WV, a son of the late Cecil G. and Beulah Carpenter Andrews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife, Dolly May Puffenbarger Andrews, in 2009 and two brothers, Keith Andrews and Lyle Andrews. He retired from the former Hercules INC, and worked maintenance for Dominion VA Power. He had served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from the Army Reserve. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church as well as the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was an avid outdoorsman with a love for gardening and canning beets. Mary Ann Jones Tucker, 79, of Vassar St., Low Moor, died, Saturday July 11, 2020 at Lewis Gale Salem Medical Center. Mrs. Tucker was born September 7,1940 the daughter of the late Paul E. Jones and Hazel Fitzgerald Jones Haynes. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Charles E. Tucker in 1979, a daughter Sharon Drummond, a granddaughter Brandi Lyles, and a brother Paul Jones. Mary retired in 1997 with 20 years of service with MeadWestVaco. She was a member of First Christian Church and a former president of the Covington Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Surviving are her two sons and daughters in law Robert and Mary Tucker and Charles and Tracy Tucker all of Covington, a daughter and son in law Donna Terry and Steven of Newport News, four grandchildren Kevin Counts, Ida Tucker, and Benjamin Tucker, and Steven Terry, four great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. Linden Paxton Persinger, 64, of 1619 Edgewood Ave., died, Friday July 10, 2020 in Henrico Doctors Hospital, Richmond. Mrs. Persinger was born April 5, 1956 in Clifton Forge, a daughter of the late Bernie and Dorothy Montgomery Paxton. Linden had retired from Ritches Cleaners. Surviving is her husband Jerry Persinger of Covington, a daughter Tammy Horn and husband Tim of Covington, two stepdaughters Melissa Richmond of Clifton Forge and Tina Persinger of Covington, a stepson Jerry Persinger Jr. and wife Melissa of Covington, a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren, three sisters Bertha Paxton of Clifton Forge, Kathy Paxton of Roanoke, Betty Paxton, two brothers Russell Paxton of Covington and David Paxton of Iron Gate and a number of nieces and nephews. James Raymond Hobbs, 64, died, Thursday, July 9, 2020, in Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mr. Hobbs was born April 14, 1956, the son of the late Willie Hobbs and Rachel Perry Hobbs Knight. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Derwin Hobbs. He was employed on the #2 boiler at Westrock. James was an avid outdoorsman to include hunting, fishing, and had rabbit and coon dogs as well. He was a former member of the Falling Spring Fire Department and Rescue Squad and was involved in Bowling and Softball Leagues as well as did karate and was associated with the Mountain Thunder Motorcycle Club. Of more recent he was in a Bass Club with his son Benjamin. Mrs. Jeffries was born October 29, 1947, in Newark Valley NY, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Struble and Dorothy Miller. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her adopted parents, Robert and Alma Jehu and also two brothers, Gordie Struble and Albert Hopkins. Judy retired in 2013 from Lumedex as a project manager. Judy enjoyed her horses and going to car shows with her husband and gardening. She was devout Atlanta Braves fan.
