Edmund Frank Byer, Sr., 89 of 3717 Upper Rich Patch Rd., died on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Highland Ridge Rehab Center in Dublin, VA. He was born March 11, 1927 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Daniel Carper Byer and Mary Fridley Byer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Goldie Byer in 2006 and also 4 brothers, three sisters, and three great grandchildren. Mr. Byer served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an employee of the former Hercules, Inc; He retired as school bus driver after 26 years from Alleghany County School Board and was employed by the former C.B. Nettleton Inc. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Edmund and Barbara Byer, Jr. of Qwinwood, WV; Jimmy and Sandy Byer of Covington and Randy and Penny of Stuarts Draft; Two daughters and sons - in-law , Brenda and Skip Farley of Goldsboro, NC and Mary and Larry Bland of Dublin; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and 11 great great grandchildren. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 11:00 AM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Brown officiating. The interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery with graveside rites being conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Active pallbearers will be Quent Byer, Stacey Byer, Tony Farley, Kevin Farley, Jamie Byer, Bobby Byer, Shane Byer and Bubba Stull. Alternates will be Seth Dame and Terry Ratcliffe, Jr. The family will receive their friends Friday evening March 10, 2017 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at the Arritt Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Jimmy and Sandy Byer, 105 Broken Arrow Lane, Covington, VA. Memorial Donations in Mr. Byer's name may be made to either Boiling Spring Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad, 5407 Potts Creek Rd., Covington, VA 24426 or to the Cliffdale Christian Church, 4605 Upper Rich Patch Rd., Covington, VA 24426. The boys begged for his attention. One bought a brand new Harley just to try and get Bob to ride with him and never did. He ran around with others. There was no Christian anything, wasn't allowed to talk about Jesus. The boys are in and out of prison, one is all over the internet and in prison for destroying property and beating on women. He partied his whole life putting himself first breaking his kids and hearts through it all. The parents partied and used the kids as bait between the other kids family,it's a mess that left everyone in the family a miserable mess. Everyone knows who he really is, and his wife. She would enable her sons to beat on women and help them do it while the women begged her for help she and Bob would just laugh at them and do nothing to.the boys. There was no relationship between the kids and Bob, the kids tried so hard they went mental, emotional, anger/rage problems. This is a very rough bunch yet still prayers for their loss and that they truly find Christ sincerely.

Stanley,Donna, Meghan, Tyler and all the family I am so very sorry for your loss. Elsie was a dear freeing and a mentor for so many women who worked with her over the year. She was one of strongest woman of faith I have ever known. I will miss her deeply
