John Clinton “John Boy” May, III, 67, of Covington, died Friday, August 18, 2023 at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem.


John was born October 19, 1955 in Covington, a son of the late John C. May, Jr. and Sylvia Slaton May. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Terry Wayne May; one brother, Roger May; two sisters, Linda May and Jerry May; and his step-mother, Cynthia May.


John retired from Walmart as a door greater after more than 20 years of employment. A lifelong car enthusiast, John was a member of Kars Unlimited car club. He also volunteered for the Roanoke MDA Car Show as well as the American Cancer Society.


Surviving are his wife of 20 years, Paula Dameron May of Covington; one son, John C. May, IV and his wife Heather of Jacksonville, NC; a daughter, Misty May of Covington; three grandchildren, Cody May, Kaylee May, and Gabriella May; two brothers, Daniel May of White Sulphur Springs, WV, and Garland “Dale” May of Hot Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Mandy Powell of Covington.


The family will receive their friends on Monday, August 21, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home. Following the visitation, and in keeping with Mr. May’s wishes, his body will be cremated.


The family asks those wishing to make memorial contributions in John’s name do so to: The Alleghany Humane Society, 9313 Rich Patch Rd, Covington, VA 24426.

The boys begged for his attention. One bought a brand new Harley just to try and get Bob to ride with him and never did. He ran around with others. There was no Christian anything, wasn't allowed to talk about Jesus. The boys are in and out of prison, one is all over the internet and in prison for destroying property and beating on women. He partied his whole life putting himself first breaking his kids and hearts through it all. The parents partied and used the kids as bait between the other kids family,it's a mess that left everyone in the family a miserable mess. Everyone knows who he really is, and his wife. She would enable her sons to beat on women and help them do it while the women begged her for help she and Bob would just laugh at them and do nothing to.the boys. There was no relationship between the kids and Bob, the kids tried so hard they went mental, emotional, anger/rage problems. This is a very rough bunch yet still prayers for their loss and that they truly find Christ sincerely.
