Alfred Lee Helton, 82, of 121 S. Alleghany Ave., died, Friday October 28, 2016, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born July 17, 1934, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Robert D. and Mary Pollard Helton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife, Glendell Wallace Helton, in 2014; two brothers, Joseph Helton and Milton Helton and a sister, Fannie Wright. Mr. Helton Served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He was an employee of the former Hercules, Inc. and retired from AET in the Shipping Department after over 40 years with the companies. He was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church where has served as usher, member of the church choir, Trustee of the Church, Member of the Men's Fellowship Class and was recently honored as an Emeritus Member of the Church. Surviving are his son, Alfred L. Helton, Jr. of Covington; his daughter, Denise Helton of Covington; one granddaughter, Danielle Helton of Covington; one grandson, Christian Helton of Covington; two brothers, Harry Helton and his Wife, Joyce, of Covington and Fred Helton of Georgia and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2016. at 1:00 PM in the Pine Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Thomas Harper officiating. The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery with graveside rites being conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Active pallbearers will be Augustine Penn, Jr., Maurice Wooding, Milton Helton, Jr., James Smith, Larry Helton, Greg Rice, Kenneth Johnson and William Young. Honorary Pallbearers will be Daniel Tyson, Sr., Clarence Twitty, Jr. and Joint Boards of Pine Street Baptist Church. Flowerbearers will be Cherry Street Neighbors and friends. The boys begged for his attention. One bought a brand new Harley just to try and get Bob to ride with him and never did. He ran around with others. There was no Christian anything, wasn't allowed to talk about Jesus. The boys are in and out of prison, one is all over the internet and in prison for destroying property and beating on women. He partied his whole life putting himself first breaking his kids and hearts through it all. The parents partied and used the kids as bait between the other kids family,it's a mess that left everyone in the family a miserable mess. Everyone knows who he really is, and his wife. She would enable her sons to beat on women and help them do it while the women begged her for help she and Bob would just laugh at them and do nothing to.the boys. There was no relationship between the kids and Bob, the kids tried so hard they went mental, emotional, anger/rage problems. This is a very rough bunch yet still prayers for their loss and that they truly find Christ sincerely.
