MONNIE HUGHES Monnie Reed Hughes, 100, died Sunday, August 26, 2012, in the Golden Living Center at Clifton Forge. Mrs. Hughes was born July 9, 1912, in Alleghany County a daughter of the late Ernest Lee and Bessie Hoke Reed, In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Bryan H. Hughes, two sisters, Cleo Reed and Knowles Elaine Thorburn and two brothers, Henry Lewis Reed and Ernest Reed, Jr. She was employed for many years as a secretary with the Department of Defense in Washington, DC. Surviving are two sisters, Sadie Smathers, of Salem and Erma Patterson of Clifton Forge; one brother, Calvin Reed, of Covington and several nieces and nephews.
