Virginia Johnson

Mrs. Roberta Johnson Mack was born September 21, 1915, the oldest daughter of the late Mr. Frank Johnson and Mrs. Georgia Dickson. She had been a resident of Covington all of her life. Mrs. Mack was educated in the public school system and graduated from the former Watson High School, which was located on Marion Avenue at that time. She was baptized at an early age and became a member of the First Baptist Church, Lexington Avenue where she sang with the Reid Choir, was a member of the Usher Board, and a Member of the Missionary Circle. She later became a member of the Concerned Christian Baptist Church where she served with the Nursing Home Ministry and was a member of the Nineties Club until her health declined. Mrs. Mack was Past Worthy Matron of the Mary Wright Chapter #103 Order of the Eastern Star; Past Commandress of Aladdin Court and honorary member of Khufu Court #118, Princeton, NJ; both auxiliaries of the A.E.A.O. N. M .S. and a Past Loyal Lady Ruler of the Golden Circle. Mrs. Mack served with the League of Older Americans as a Foster Grandparent at Covington High School and later worked as a Fry Cook for McDonald's when they first opened their franchise in Covington. Mrs. Mack loved to travel. One of her favorite hobbies was to bake and decorate cakes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lou Homer Mack in 1999; four brothers, Frank Johnson, Jr., Lewis Johnson, Meredith Dickson and Dunbar Dickson and three sisters, Fluncy Johnson Flood, Evelyn Johnson Martin and Agnes Dickson Lee. Surviving are three daughters, Cassandra DeCohen of Bensalem, PA; Brenda Holloway of Covington; Donna (George) Goodson of East Windsor, NJ; four adopted daughters, Linda Venable and Gay Lynn (Gary) Twitty, all of Covington; Pamela (Charlie) Cannon of Portsmouth; Gloria Pierce of Covington; 16 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Audrey Mack of Covington; a cousin, Mrs. Lauretta Green of White Sulphur, WV and a good friend Ms. Gail Fitzgerald of Dale City. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday January 2, 2016 at Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. William Hickman III officiating. The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Sherman N. Holloway, Jr, Gary Twitty, Malik Holloway, Rodney W. Swanson, Jr., Randolph Waddell,Jr. and Nathaniel Gainey. Flower Bearers will be Mrs. Alexis Swanson, ms. Matara Holloway, Ms. Roberta Beverly, Ms. Jacinta DeCohen, Mrs. Lanette Waddell and Mrs. Gayle Gainey. The family will receive their friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home on Saturday. The family suggests that memorial donations in Mrs. Mack's name be made to Concerned Christian Baptist Church or to Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
