Susan Gail Smith Scruggs got her wings and went to walk with the angels Friday, January 26, 2024, after multiple battles with Cancer. She was 66 years old.

It would be wrong to say Susan lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. When anyone else would have broken, Susan stayed strong.

Susan was born February 6, 1957, in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Eugene Harvey and Violet Humphries Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Ruby Jane Jones; five brothers; Edward Wayne Smith, Russell Eugene Smith, Robert Lee Smith, Charles Harvey Smith, and Donald Ray Persinger.

Susan was the Assistant Manager of the Kroger Deli in Clifton Forge until she retired.  She was baptized and attended Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Susans greatest love was her family.

Susan is survived by two children which she was so proud of: a daughter Tessia Kellison Harris and husband, Jason Harris of Kingsport, TN and a son, John Scruggs Jr. of Clifton Forge, VA. She helped raise four grandchildren; Paris Caudill III of Ohio, Johnathan Scruggs, Conner Scruggs and Bentley Scruggs of Clifton Forge and four other special people; Michelle Hawse, Laurie May, Hattie Beard and Kris Anderson.  Susan had many friends however, John Scruggs Sr., Teri Sowards, Leslie Smith and Lawrence Ruff were special to her and she had known them for many years. She is also survived by a sister, Nancy Coleman of Covington and a brother, Jerry Smith of Clifton Forge and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family invites you to join them for a memorial service at Arritt Funeral Home on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 12 PM. Susan had requested that everyone wear casual attire for the service.

Arritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
