Luther Udell Bowen, 85, of 4414 Dunlap Creek Rd., died Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at his residence. He was born April 16, 1933, in Alleghany County, a son the late William M. and Leona Switzer Bowen. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Bowen and Alvin Bowen and by a great granddaughter, Abigail Cable and two brothers and two sisters. Mr. Bowen served with the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1995 from the Via Sawmill in Louisa and had delivered the Richmond Times-Dispatch newspaper in Louisa for a number of years. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Tucker Bowen, of Covington; his son, Everett "Buster Bowen and his wife, Selina, of Covington; his two daughters, Lelia "Cathy" Nester and her husband, Toney, of Mineral and Thelma Hooper and her husband, Steve, of Robbinsville, NC; two step daughters, Teresa Simmons and her husband, Carl, and Charlotte Ann Hepler and her husband, Lonnie, all of Covington; one step- son Phillip Wayne May and his wife ,Tina, of Covington; a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews . The funeral service will be held Saturday, September 1, 2018, at 11:00 AM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will be made in Lone Star Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Harry Lee Simmons, Anthony Johnson, Gene Crawford, Shawn Blankenship, Michael Bowen, James L. Tucker and Scotty Hooper. The family will receive their friends Friday, August 31, 2018, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Arrritt Funeral Home. The family suggests that donations in Mr. Bowen's name may be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
