Charles Richard "Ikey" Walton, 81, of Covington, left this life for his heavenly home on January 22, 2018 with his family by his side. Mr. Walton was born April 24, 1936 in Pence Springs, WV the son of the late John L. Walton and Annie B. Walton. He was the last surviving member of his 9 brothers and sisters; Julian Walton, Delbert Walton, Fronia Fury, Geneva Ellis, Florence Huffman, James Walton, Berman Walton and his twin brother Leslie Walton. In addition to his brothers and sisters he was preceded in death by his in laws Arthur and Etna Weikle who loved him dearly like their own, three grandchildren and a daughter in law Dustin Walton and Candace Walton and their mother Peggy Walton and Greg Smith. He proudly served his country for 9 years in the United States Air Force. He retired from Westvaco in 1998 where he worked on the No. 8 paper machine for 38 years. He was also very active in the Dunlap Fire and Rescue Squad for 51 years where he was an EMT and Firefighter and held a number of different offices. One of his favorite things while in the department was doing the Santa Claus run for the children in the community. He was a member of the Moss Run Baptist Church where he was a deacon, youth leader and choir member. He was a Scoutmaster of Troop 173 for numerous years where he had several Eagle scouts and hall all three of his boys to make the rank of Eagle. He was also the very proud grandfather of six Eagle scouts. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Letsie Ann Walton who he was married to since May 3, 1958, five children; a son Michael Walton and wife Nancy of Southern Shores, NC and their children, Stephen Walton and Stacey Walton, a daughter Marlene Smith and Husband Randy of Covington and their children Steven Smith and wife Beverly, Christina Studebaker and husband Kevin, and Matthew Smith, a daughter Gwen McAllister and Husband Randy of Rifle, CO and their son Cecil McAllister and wife Nicki, a son Kevin Walton and wife Donna of Craigsville and their children Rachel Jones and husband Brandon Kevin Walton Jr. and wife Nikki, Megan Miller and husband Phillip, and Hillary Lockridge and husband Anthony, and a son Tim Walton and wife Susan of Covington and their children Brandon Walton, Craig Walton, Derek Walton, and Mark Walton. The funeral service will be held on Thursday January 25, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Mt. Hermon Baptist Church in Sarton, WV with the Rev. Frank Sizemore officiating assisted by Rev. Nathan Miller. The family will receive their friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00PM in the Arritt Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Pallbearers will be his grandsons. The family would like to thank the staff at the Springs Nursing Home for all their kindness and care throughout the time he was there. Also many thanks to the staff at Bath Community Hospital for all the great care they showed to not only him but to all his family. Everyone was always treated like they were part of their own family. In lieu of flowers donation may be made in Mr. Walton's name to the Moss Run Baptist Church where he was a very much loved member.
