Larry Gene Thurston, 55, of Roanoke, died, Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born February 1, 1954 in Alleghany County a son of William J. and Mildred Jennings Thurston of Covington. Mr. Thurston was employed in the Food Department at Wal -Mart in Roanoke. He was a member of the NRA. He was preceded in death by his aunt, Frances Jennings Armstrong. In addition to his parents, Larry is survived by his wife, Maude Griffin Thurston of Roanoke; his daughter, Erin M. Thurston and her fianc Chris Hall both of Roanoke; his sister, Brenda Brinkley and her husband Jack of Roanoke; special friends, Dan Matics of San Diego and David Matics of Roanoke. The funeral service will be held Friday at 1:00 PM in Arritt Funeral Home Chapel in Covington, with the Rev. Dr. Bill Booth officiating. The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park, Low Moor, VA. The family will receive their friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home.
