Bobby “Willie” Gene Smith, 88, of 130 Wills Ave., died, Friday, November 27, 2020 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. Mr. Smith was born September 4, 1932 in Alleghany County a son of the late Armond French Smith and Virginia Wilhelm Smith McNeely. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Lair Smith, a son Robert “Snuffy” Smith, two brothers Ronnie Smith and Donnie McNeely. Bobby served in the United States Navy on the USS Hornet during the Korean War. He was a conductor for over 40 years with Amtrak and was a member of Good News Christian Fellowship. He was also a member of the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge #1065, the Covington Moose Lodge #610, the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was an avid golfer, loved bowling, and enjoyed cooking for his family. Surviving are his daughter Linda Higgins and husband Billy, a son Chris Smith and Kim Simpson all of Covington, four grandchildren Jennifer Smith Mundy and husband Chris, Katie Smith, Will Higgins all of Covington and Hunter Smith of Blacksburg, a great grandson Jayden Mundy of Covington, two sisters Joyce Johnston of TN, Linda Madison of Richmond, a brother Butch McNeely of Richmond, and a sister in law Pat McNeely of Covington, and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Tuesday December 1, 2020 at 2:00 PM in Alleghany Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Noel officiating. The family will receive their friends from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home. The arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.
