Daniel Jiro Long, 56, of Covington, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at LewisGale Hospital in Salem.

He was born January 11, 1969, in Japan, a son of the late Landon L. Long and Mary Webb Long Buffo of White Sulphur, WV. Daniel worked at Smurfit-Westrock (formally WestRock) for more than twenty years in the Recovery Department. He enjoyed cooking and loved all sports.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons, Landon Long and Daniel “Akio” Long, both of Hot Springs; a stepson, Cory Griffin of Clifton Forge; a stepdaughter, Ambria Griffin of Covington; one grandson, Atticus Masters of Covington; a brother, Doug Long of Suffolk; two sisters, Angie Long Mcguffin from Wake Forest, NC, Libby Long of Newport, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home.
