HERBERT BROADNAX, JR.
Herbert Broadnax, Jr., 81, of 346 East Pine Street died Tuesday evening, November 25, 2008, in the Brian Center Nursing Home at Low Moor.
Mr. Broadnax was born July 2, 1927, in Reidsville, NC, a son of the late Herbert Broadnax, Sr. and Lula Hamlin Broadnax.
He was a veteran of the Korean War with the United States Army and also served in the Merchant Marines. He was a member of the Pine Street Baptist Church and served as a Deacon.
Mr. Broadnax retired in 1992 as a Captain in the dining room at The Homestead after 45 years with the hotel. He had an abiding love for his family and enjoyed growing roses in his yard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Wife, Geneva Gallway Broadnax in 1991 and by his Son, Herbert Broadnax III in 1998.
Surviving are four Daughters, Deborah Broadnax of Sterling, Pier Broadnax of Annandale, Francetta Pickard of Florence, SC, and Cathy Watkins of Reidsville, NC; two grandsons, Antwaun Broadnax and Maurice Broadnax, both of Covington; one great grandson, Antwaun Broadnax, Jr. and his mother, Amanda Leonard, of Covington; two brothers, Frederick Broadnax of Reidsville, NC and Charles Broadnax and his wife, Eula, of Delray Beach, FL; two sisters, Gordine Samuel and her husband, Leroy, of Tabb and Loretta Lee of Washington, DC, and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 AM in the Pine Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Matthew T. Barnett officiating, assisted by Elder Warner L. Hunter, Sr.
Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Ralph Fitspatrick, Raymond Hunter, Roy Carter, Cleveland Tyson, Sr., Daniel Tyson, Sr., Harry Helton, Sr., Shawn Smith and James Spencer.
