Robert Wayne “Bobby” Byer, Jr., 59, of Covington, died Friday, October 6, 2023 at LewisGale Medical Center in Salem.

Mr. Byer was born April 26, 1964, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Robert W. Byer, Sr. and Arletta Tingler Griffith.

Bobby was employed as a truck driver for Team Carriers, Inc. for many years. He loved hunting and being outdoors and was a well-known car and truck enthusiast. He attended Cliffdale Christian Church.

Surviving are his wife, Anita Bowen Byer of Covington; three sons, Robert (Caitlin) Cash, Dustin (Kellie) Cash, all of Covington, and Johnny (Rachael) Ward of Daleville; two daughters, , Darrian (Sheila) Tucker of Covington, Priscilla (John) Malone of Spruce Pine, NC; grandchildren, Brady, Carper, Dillon, Savannah, Gracie, Quincy, Dixon, Chase, Cameron, Kaylee, Colton, Alice, Avery, and Jenna; two brothers, Jaimie (Stacey) Griffith and Bruce (Amy) Byer, all of Covington; one sister, Misty Byer of Covington; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a special nephew, Tyler Griffith and two close cousins, Davey Wright and Eddie Wright.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Christian officiating. The family will receive their friends on Monday evening from 6 – 7:30 PM at the funeral home.

Interment will be made in Lonestar Cemetery.
