BUFORD ARMENTROUT Ira Buford Armentrout, 89 , of 1923 S. Rugby Street, died early today, Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Golden Living Center in Clifton Forge. He was born January 13, 1923 in Roanoke, a son of the late Ira I. and Goldie Downey Armentrout. Mr. Armentrout served in the United States Army during World War II where he was involved in the Normandy, Northern France, Central Europe, Ardennes, and Rhineland campaigns. He retired in 1988 from MeadWestvaco as a machine tender on the # 8 Paper Machine after 43 years of service. He was a member of the South Covington United Methodist Church where he was active with the food pantry. Mr. Armentrout was a member of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Covington Lodge 610, Loyal Order of Moose. Surviving are his wife, Lila Swope Armentrout of Covington; one son, Stephen B. Armentrout of Clifton Forge; six daughters, Juanita Angle of Eagle Rock; Patricia Godard of Oklahoma ; Debra Jamison; Cathy Crawford and Linda Adkins, all of Covington and Dora Little of Tampa , FL; a step daughter, Linda Alfier of Covington; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister, Joyce Wills of Clifton Forge and his buddy, Sassy Lady. The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park. Memorial Information The family suggest that memorial donations in Mr. Armentrout's name may be made to Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA.
