Wanda Thompson Merino, 45, of Covington, died, Sunday January 8, 2023, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Merino was born January 21, 1977, in Alleghany Co. a daughter of Phillip Thompson, Sr. and Janet Sue Ryan Thompson both of Covington. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband Miguel Merino in 2015, and brother Andrew Thompson. 


Surviving other than her parents she is survived by a daughter Monica Merino of Covington; two sons Marselino Gonzales of Covington, and Max Gonzales of Richmond; two grandchildren Damien Gonzales and Aliyana Gonzales, her fiancé Baldemar Mazariegos of Covington; two sisters Evelyn Escobar and Alisha Thompson; two brothers Phillip Thompson Jr. and Diane and Jacob Thompson and Grace all of Covington; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. 


In keeping with her wishes her body has been cremated. The family will receive their friends on Saturday at 3:00 PM at Covington Bible Church. Arrangements are being handle by Arritt Funeral Home.

It has been a while since I got to visit but I still held you close to my heart. You are a wonderful person and cousin it's just sad I couldn't see you more often but I know there's a special place after we leave this earth and I know I will see you again but until then u will be greatly missed by so many! Until then woman FLY HIGH AND DONT FORGET US DOWN HERE! I love you!

I’m so glad I had the opportunity to get to know you, even if it was for a short time we still got close. I will always remember the great laughs we had and you giving me advice when I was struggling. I love and miss you so much Wanda, rest easy, we’ll take it from here.

I remember all the times we were sitting on mawmaws porch and talking crap about people and we would always laugh and giggle and my birthday party when dad was helping u up the stairs and you said don’t you dare drop me
