Thomas Ira Pritt, 83, of 536 East Hickory Street died Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Alleghany Regional Hospital. Mr. Pritt was born on September 22, 1926, in Bath County a son of the late Russell Pritt and Thelma Ollie Definbaugh Pritt. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tina Pritt, a granddaughter Angie "Pooh" Gilpin, and two brothers. He retied in 1991 after 40 years of service from the C&O Railroad as a Brakeman. He was a member of the First Church of Nazarene. He served in the United States Army in World War II, and was also an avid hunter. Surviving are his wife, Louise Gutshall Pritt of Covington; a daughter; Catherine Brown and husband, Donnie of Covington; a son, Thomas Pritt and his wife, Katherine of Covington, three grandchildren; Christy Anderson and her husband Chris, Lisa Pritt, and Christian Brown, all of Covington; four great grandchildren, Tristin Brown, Zachary Brown, Noah Brown, Nathaniel McKinney, all of Covington; two sisters, Mary Hanks of Covington, Elsie Walker and husband, Joe of Stauton; three God-Children; Hannah Leitch, Michael Parker, and Marlee Parker all of Covington; sister-in-law; Joyce Ferris and husband Harvey of Hot Springs, a brother in law; Weldon Gutshall of Hot Springs, and a number of nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Brown officiating assisted by the Rev. Sonnie Wiseman. The internment will follow at Alleghany Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers will be Billy Burns, Darrell Pulley, George Leitch, Chris Anderson, Christian Brown, Gary Gilpin, Bill Goings, and Gary Sizemore. Graveside rites will be conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 VFW. Friends may pay their respects at anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends this evening from 7 to 8:30 PM at the funeral home. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Pritt's name be made to the First Church of Nazarene, 336 East Parrish Street, Covington, VA 24426.
