Carol Persinger Smith, of 1802 North Oakwood Drive in Clifton Forge went to be with the Lord Monday night, June 9, 2008, after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Alleghany County a daughter of the late Abraham Lincoln and Janet Wilson Persinger. She had retired as a real estate agent with Owens & Co. Realtors. Carol was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Selma. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Odessa Sutton, and Shirley Young; one brother, Leroy Persinger; and a very special Uncle, Ledford Bush. Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Roger E. Smith; daughters Sandra Roberts and her husband Chip of Tampa, FL; Lisa Poage of Roanoke; Cheryl Hall and her husband Jerry of Roanoke. 7 Grandchildren, Justin M. Poage, Lauren Roberts, Kate Roberts, Brittany Brizendine, Brandon Hall, Connor Hall, and her special grandson Christopher Noah Hall, who she lovingly refered to as her "angel boy". two sisters; Emma Webb and her husband Ray of Gladewater, Texas and Reba Byer of Covington. two brothers; John Persinger and his wife Jeannie of Covington; J.R. and Mary Persinger of Blue Ridge, VA. a very special niece, Kathy Mytko of Roanoke, and numerous other nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. Carol also leaves behind her three beloved Jack Russell Terriers, Eddie, Ellie, and Heidi. Her dogs gave her much enjoyment in her life. In keeping with Carol's last wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday at 6 PM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Steve Lewis officiating. The family will receive their friends following the service.
