Leon Eugene Hoke, Jr. of Clifton Forge, 68, died peacefully in the early evening of 26 August after a brief illness. Known as “Junior” to his family and his many friends, he leaves behind his beloved wife, Rhonda Underwood Hoke; his son Harry Hoke and his partner, Julie, of Wytheville, VA; his son Gary A. Hoke, of Covington; his son Jacob Hoke and his wife, Sara, of Covington; and his daughter Vicky Donahue and her husband, Shannon, of Covington; his step-daughter, Kelly Maloney and her husband Jason of Covington; and his 10 grandchildren: Justin Hoke, Jordan Hoke, Tanner Hoke, Teagan Hoke, Treye Bailey, Brooklynn Bailey, Allyson Bailey, Justice Maloney, Mason Maloney and Maddox Maloney. He also leaves 4 great-grandchildren: Braxton, Remliee, Cayden and Aribella and two brothers, Mike Hoke of Covington and Billy Hoke, of Covington. He was born in Covington, the son of the late Daisy Caldwell Hoke and the late Leon Eugene Hoke. He was also preceded in death by his infant son, Jeremy Madison Hoke, an infant brother, Jody Hoke and a second brother, Steve ("Pete") Hoke. As a young teenager he joined his father, to work as a part of the family business - Hoke Brother's Logging. Carrying his family tradition into its second generation and eventually passing the love and legacy down to its third generation. "Junior" was a lifelong outdoorsman who cherished his family and community. A quiet and humble man of keen eye, he never let the demands of fifty plus years hard work as a professional logger chip away the kindness of his heart. "Junior" will be remembered and missed by many - family, friends, neighbors, and fellow colleagues. Those wishing to honor his memory may make donations to The National Heart Association or to the American Diabetes Association. Rhonda and family, Leon was one of the nicest people we knew. From the first time we met him, we knew he was going to be good to you and Kelly. His kind heart and respectful mannerism showed in everything he said and did. I remember telling my boys, who lived away by then, that Rhonda had married a good man--a really good man. He was dedicated to ALL of his family. May the memories of your time together bring you peace. Heaven has a happy logger. RIP Leon. Ronnie and Judy
