Genevieve Wheeler McKenzie, 84, of Covington, died Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Woodlands Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. McKenzie was born March 16, 1938, in Hot Springs, a daughter of the late Eugene and Emma Wheeler Wright. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd McKenzie; one daughter, Demerity Valdez; two sons, Melvin Wright and Robert “Wiz” Wright; one sister, Jean Taylor; and two brothers, Robert Wright and Tyrone Wheeler. Genevieve took care of children in the Washington D.C. area for number of years. She was a member of the Master Child Church in Washington D.C. Surviving are three daughters, Renee Wright of Covington, Sandra Dinkins of Macon, Georgia and Louise Wallace and her husband Jay of Roanoke; one son, Kirk Wright of Covington; 15 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Deborah Wright-Hall and husband Hubert of Covington; two brothers, Gilbert Wright and Gregory Wright and wife, Alice of Maryland; a special brother-in-law, Nathaniel Taylor; and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 1st, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Nathaniel Taylor officiating.
