Randall "Bun" Tingler, age 68, died peacefully at his home on March 2, 2018, surrounded by his family and friends. "Bun" was born on April 16, 1949, in Alleghany County, the son of the late Jesse and Bertha Tingler. In addition to his parents he ws preceded by a brother, Melivn "Monk" Tingler. He is survived by his sister, Betty Tingler Arthur; his daughters Ellen Tingler Fischer and Sara Tingler Hoke; his son-in-law, Jacob Hoke; grandsons Ryan and Cayden Fischer; Tanner and Teagan Hoke; and Sydney Fischer, the special little girl in his life whom he loved as his own, as well as several nieces and nephews. A prominent figure in the Highlands community, "Bun" served 33 years with the Alleghany County Sheriff's Department, retiring in 2003 as Captain. In addition, he volunteered with the Boiling Springs Fire & Rescue for 30 years, a lifelong commitment to the community he shared with his beloved wife, Sharon Linton Tingler, who preceded him in death. "Bun" was known throughout the County for his community service, as well as for his hospitality as the popular owner of Kountry Korners on Potts Creek Road. He juggled the multiple demands of professional, civic, and his family to create a lively, inviting environment that drew friends and customers from throughout the county. To many in the Highlands, "Bun" was larger than life, a commanding and forceful presence all relied on. After retirement he continued to maintain an active interest in law enforcement, serving as an informal mentor and advisor to both veterans of and newcomers to the Sheriff's Department. He also was an avid gun collector and a Chevrolet enthusiast. Anyone who knew Bun, would always have a story about a gun that was bought and sold or about how fast that 396 big block really was. Services will be provided by Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive guests from 6:30-8:00 on Tuesday, March 6, 2018. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 2:00 pm. Following the service, a dinner will be provided for all who wish to join the family at Boiling Springs Fire House. "Bun" will be remembered and missed by his friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Those wishing to honor his memory may make donations to either the Boiling Springs Fire Department or the Paint Bank Volunteer Fire & Rescue. My deepest condolences to Brian, Vicki and extended family. Jerry reached out to me when Mom passed (I was going through hell with my current stepdad at that time) He was a beacon of light when I needed it most and we always got along great. Jerry is definitely missed but I’m so glad he was baptized and saved. Love Donna
