Erna Layton Hoover, 82, of 2513 Jackson River Rd., died, Tuesday May 26, 2020 at her residence. Mrs. Hoover was born December 7, 1937 in Bath County, the daughter of the late Donnie F. and Mabel Donovan Layton. In addition to her parents she was preceded by her husband Paul E. Hoover in 2018, two sisters Anita McElwee and Jodi McMann, and a brother Buddy Layton. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher of the Fellowship Class and a member of the choir. She is survived by four daughters Donna Ward and Husband Billy, Cindy Givens, Dreama Jenkins and husband Bink, Paula Boone, and husband Chris all of Covington; eight grandchildren Marcie Hoy and husband Paul, Ryan Jenkins and wife Kari, Michael Boone, Cody Jenkins and wife Heather, Megan Ward, Brittany Jordan, Haley Harris and husband David, and Patrick; 11 great grandchildren Donovan Givens, Cole Hoy, River Jenkins, Wren Jenkins, Quinten Harris, Melody Boone, Dillion Boone, Lacey Boone, Alaina Jordan, and Josiah Jordon. A sister Delma Laclair of Staunton, and several nieces and nephews to include Mike Hoover who was raised in the home. In keeping with the guidelines of the current pandemic crisis, a Graveside service will be held Friday May 29, 2020 at 2:00 PM in the Alleghany Memorial Park with the Rev. Mike Snyder assisted by the Rev. Deb Washer. Memorial donations in Mrs. Hoover's name may be made to the Area 18 Special Olympics at 305 S.
