Mr. Thomas Lee Dickerson Sr., 79, of 214 South Marion Ave. and formerly of Fairfield, Virginia died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor. He was the son of the late Wade and Emma Dickerson. At an early age, Mr. Dickerson moved to Covington to live with his foster parents the late Samuel and Anne Jackson. Mr. Dickerson retired from the Westvaco Pulp and Paper Company now called Mead Westvaco. While at Westvaco, he was a Shop Steward in the General Utility Department. Mr. Dickerson served his country in the US Army and fought in the North Korean War. He was a Mason with the Arche Wright Lodge No. 311 and a member of the Elks Club. Mr. Dickerson was also a member of Concerned Christian Baptist Church. Mr. Dickerson was preceded in death by two brothers Walter P. and Martin S. Dickerson, and two sisters Mary Dickerson Wise and Bessie Dickerson Hayes. Mr. Dickerson is survived by one son Mr. Thomas "T. L." Dickerson Jr. and three daughters: Ms. Darlene C. Stewart, Mrs. Cora S. (James) Poteat of Covington and Mrs. Deborah A. (Thomas) Sampson of Clifton Forge; three brothers: Mr. George (Gladys) Dickerson of Fairfield, Mr. Charles R. (Myra) Dickerson of Alexandria, and his devoted brother William "Herman" (Lois) Dickerson of Lexington; three sisters: Mrs. Mae Dickerson Thompson of Hyattsville, Maryland, Mrs. Barbara Dickerson (Maurice) Sheffield of Las Vegas, Nevada and Ms. Geraldine Dickerson Kitchens of Laurel, Maryland and a foster sister Mrs. Frances Jackson Gill of Roanoke; two aunts: Mrs. Geneva Eddy of Washington, D.C., and Ms. Blanche Jackson of Fairfield; four grandchildren and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves to cherish his memory a very special and dear friend of many years, Mrs. Leatha Stewart of Covington and his two best buddies: Mr. Gilbert Smith and Mr. Jock Poteat. Pallbearers: Mr. James Poteat, Mr. Ralph Fitzpatrick, Mr. Gary Twitty, Mr. James Smith, Mr. Caul Johnson and Mr. Miton Helton Honorary Pallbearer Mr. Gilbert Smith The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, May 17, 2008 in the Concerned Christian Baptist Church with the Rev. William O. Hickman III officiating. Following the funeral service Mr. Dickerson's body will be cremated. The family will receive their friends Friday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home and at other times they will be at the family residence at 214 S. Marion Street .
