RACHEL HALSEY Rachel Wheeler Halsey, 91, formerly of Alleghany Ave., died, Tuesday April 28 at Alleghany Regional Hospital. Mrs. Halsey had been making her home with a special friend Loren Beverly in Iron Gate. She was born November 8, 1917 in Washington, DC a daughter of Percy and Beauty Wheeler. Mrs. Halsey was a Cosmetologist . Mrs. Halsey took care of many people over the years in the Alleghany Highlands, offering food, shelter and love. She was a former employee of the The Homestead, Inc. and was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lewisburg and attended the First Penetecostal Holiness Church in Covington. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Halsey was preceded in death by her loving husband, Samuel Halsey in 2002 ; two brothers Percy Wheeler and Alfred Wheeler and a sister Dorothy Wheeler. Surviving are nieces and nephews, including Mitchell Beard; Ernest Lindsey, Jr. Dennis Lindsey; a niece Doris Via and a host of other relatives. The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel. Friends may pay their respects at anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends for one hour prior to service time at Arritt Funeral Home. The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
