Gladys Conner Williams, 85, of Salem and formerly of Covington died Thursday, December 11, 2014, at her home. Mrs. Williams was born March 26, 1929, in Covington a daughter of the late William Lewis and Margaret Miller Conner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Ryland L. Williams, in 1993 and also by one sister Geraldine Byrd and a brother Emmett Conner. She was a longtime member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church. Surviving are her daughter, Kathryn Mays, of Hudson, FL; twin sons, Garry Williams of Covington and Larry Williams and his Wife, Pat, of Roanoke; three grandchildren, Marcia Hicks and her Husband, Curtis, of Salem; Chad Williams and his Wife, Heather, of Salem and Brent Williams and his Wife, Kelsey, of Cornelius, NC; eight Great Grandchildren, Garrett Hicks, Meredith Hicks, Will Hicks, Kendra Williams, Conner Williams, Amelia Williams, Gavin Williams and Zoe Williams. The funeral service will be held Sunday, December 14, 2014, at 3:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Fleenor officiating. The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Chad Williams, Brent Williams, Curtis Hicks and Garrett Hicks. The family will receive their friends from 1:30 PM until service time at the Arritt Funeral Home on Sunday. Memorial donations in Mrs. Williams name may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association , Central and Western Virginia Chapter, P.O. 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011 or to the McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, 900 Alleghany Memorial Ave, Covington, VA 24426. The family wishes to express their thanks to the staff and residents of Salem Terrace Harrogate for their care and compassion and also to Gentle Shepherd Hospice. Betty was my classmate from grade 6 at Watson to Graduation from CHS, c/o 1971. She was very quiet, yet very friendly.
I saw her several times, after her return to Covington, usually at church. She was very spiritual and loved worship and praise.
My condolences 🙏🏽 and prayers to her entire Family.
