EARL McCLUNG Earl Andrew McClung, 90, of 4350 Pitzer Ridge Rd., died, Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. He was born April 6, 1922 in Botetourt County, a son of the late Squire E. Marie Wilhelm McClung. Mr. McClung Served in World War II with the United States Navy. He retired as a pipefitter from MeadWestvaco after 44 years of service. He was a member of Mallow Presbyterian Church. and was a avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed working in his garden and got a lot of pleasure working puzzle books later in life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Sprinkle McClung in 2005; three brothers, Carl McClung; Richard Mc Clung ; his identical twin brother Earnest McClung; two sisters, Virginia Thomas and Catherine Scott and a grandson, John Andrews. Surviving are two sons and daughters- in- law, Earl J. McClung and his wife Debbie of Covington and Jim McClung and his wife Freda of Charlottesville; two daughters and sons- in - law, Sherry Simmons and her husband Dennis "Squirrel" of Covington and Traci Rimmer and her husband Jeff with whom Mr. McClung had made his home with for a number of years in Covington; 12 grandchildren, Bobby Joe McClung; Lorri Saville , both of Covington; Gary Wayne McClung of Newport News; Kelly Kendrick and Holly McClung, both of Christiansburg; Jennifer "Nikki" Burton of Covington; Melissa Ann Nicely of Eagle Rock; Kristen Nicely of Clifton Forge; Tad Humphries of Eagle Rock; April Dilley ; Aaron Dilley and Andrew Dilley, all of Covington; 13 great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; Erica Rimmer of Elkton; Tiffany Rimmer and Jeffrey Rimmer, both of Virginia Beach; two step great grandchildren, Marie Simmons of Clifton Forge and Stuart Simmons of Covington; one brother, Wesley Lomax of Eagle Rock ; five sisters, Christine Lee of Salem; Eunice Kern and her husband Keith of Daleville; Joyce Shell of Salem ; Armeda Rieley and her husand Glenn of Fincastle and Audine Dillon and her husband J.L. of Eagle Rock; five sisters- in law, Betty Sprinkle; Nora Rothrock and Lillian Stanley, all of Roanoke; Janie McClung of Eagle Rock and Charlotte McClung of Fincastle and numerous nieces and nephews. The interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park with graveside rites being conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 VFW. Active pallbearers will be Tad Humphries, Andrew Dilley, Aaron Dilley, Bobby McClung, Dale Saville, Brandon Nicely and Anthony Nicely. Alternates will be Mike Kendrick, Ray Burton and Ben Saville.
