IRENE MERRELL Irene Estell Hargrove Merrell, 84, of Elkhart, IN and formerly of Covington, VA, died, Monday September 30, 2013. She was born July 11, 1929, in Franklin County, TN a daughter of the late Luther and Madge Mason Hargrove. Irene was a homemaker. In addition to spending time with her family she enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting and quilting. Mrs. Merrell was a member of Covington Bible Church, Covington, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Audley North "Doc" Merrell in 1987; a granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Mack; four sisters, Elene Moore; Clara Engleberger, Lena Gregg, and Ruth Rinke and one brother, Jim Hargrove. Surviving are four children, Pastor Howard L. Merrell and his wife Kathleen of Covington, VA ; Ted M. Merrell and his wife Becky of San Antonio, TX; Judy Ann Mack and her husband John, and Carol Lynn Supper and her husband John, both of Elkhart, IN; 9 grandchildren ; 9 great grandchildren; one brother Ray Hargrove of Winchester, TN and several nieces and nephews. The family will conduct a private graveside service at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington, VA with the Rev. Doug Williams officiating. Arritt Funeral Home in Covington, VA is in charge of local arrangements.
