Geraldine Paxton Reed, 93, of 821 Lou Ave., Clifton Forge, formerly of McDonald Street in Covington, died Monday evening, January11, 2016 at her home. She was born September 4, 1922, in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Henry Burse and Rhoda Kemper Paxton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Husband, Henry Lewis Reed, in 1996; her Son, Howard W. Reed and two Brothers, Howard Paxton and Kenneth Paxton. Mrs. Reed had retired as a Librarian after many years with the Charles Pinckney Jones Memorial Library. She was a longtime member of Highland Chapel Christian Church and had attended First Christian Church in recent years. She was a member of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary; the Good Hope Rebekah Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the former Ladies Auxiliary of the Covington Moose. Geraldine was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose smile will never be forgotten. Surviving are her Daughter Ora Goodbar and her Husband, Robert, of Clifton Forge; one grandson, Boyd Goodbar and his Wife, Angie, of Clifton Forge; one granddaughter Stephanie Goodbar of Roanoke and one great grandson, McKinley Goodbar of Clifton Forge; two brothers-in-law, Calvin Reed of Covington and Robert Reed of Richmond; a sister-in-law, Erma Patterson of Clifton Forge and several nieces and nephews including Wendell "Popeye" and Brenda Paxton of Covington. The funeral service will be held Friday, January 15, 2016, at 11:00 AM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park. The family will receive their friends Thursday evening, January 14, 2016 from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM at the Arritt Funeral home. The family suggests that memorial donations in Mrs. Reed's name may be made to either Highland Chapel Christian Church or to First Christian Church.
