Lewis Arnold Persinger 84, formerly of Potts Creek, left his earthly home on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at The Woodlands Health and Rehab Center in Clifton Forge where he and his Wife of 65 years, Virginia Pearl Simmons Persinger, shared a room together. Mr. Persinger was born June 11, 1932, in Alleghany County a son of the late Isaac Benjamin and Phoebe Demaris Gaines Persinger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first born Son, Lewis Arnold Persinger, Jr., three brothers, Joe, Isiah and Charles, and four sisters, Catherine Persinger, Fanny Persinger, Melvina Ailstock and Annie Switzer. He was veteran of the Korean War with the US Army. He was a former employee of Hercules, Inc. and the Virginia Department of Transportation and had retired after 26 years with the City of Covington Public Works Department. Surviving are his Wife, Virginia Pearl Simmons Persinger, of The Woodlands; his Son, Harvey Lucian Persinger and his Wife, Debbie, of Covington; his Daughter, Dreama Robinson, and significant other, Eddie Newcomb, of Clifton Forge; grandson Jeremy Lucian Persinger, and wife, Kristi, of Covington; granddaughter Michaela Renee' Robinson and significant other, Alex Plogger, of Clifton Forge; Great Grandson Jace Lucian Persinger of Covington; one brother, William Henry Persinger, of Clifton Forge; a Sister-in-law, Marie Gaines of Covington and a number of nieces and nephews. Even though he was no longer able to attend his church, he still had a strong belief in God. For most of his life he enjoyed singing and playing the guitar, but also enjoyed playing the banjo and mandolin. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 2, 2017, at 2:00 PM at the graveside in Lone Star Cemetery with the Rev. Gene Ayers officiating assisted by the Rev. Virgil Woodie. Active pallbearers will be Harvey Persinger, Jeremy Persinger, Eddie Newcomb, Alex Plogger and Mike Switzer. The family suggests that donations in Mr. Persinger's name be made to The Woodlands Resident Fund; 1000 Fairview Ave.; Clifton Forge, VA 24422, or to Mountain Regional Hospice; P.O.
