Gary Robert Hawley, 64, went to be with his Lord on May 15, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. Mr. Hawley was born February 19, 1955 in Pontiac, MI, the son of the late Morton "Dutch" and Ruby Moore Hawley. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his father-in-law Lee McClung. Gary was formerly from Vienna, WV and moved to Covington in 2013 to be closer to his grandson. He worked at St. Joseph's Hospital for 35 years in Parkersburg, WV and worked at Lewis Gale Alleghany for 3 years until his retirement. He was a faithful servant of God, serving as a deacon at Vienna Baptist Church and then at First Christian Church for many years. He was attending Temple Baptist Church at the time of his passing. Gary was a one-of-a-kind person, always had a kind word and a smile for everyone. A true example of how we should treat one another. He loved many things like golfing, the outdoors, West Virginia Sports, being around people, and most of all his family and his Savior. Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Tina Hawley of Covington, a daughter Amanda Sprouse and husband John of Covington, a son Gary Lee Hawley and wife Stephanie of Vienna, WV, grandchild Kenny Sprouse of Covington, a sister Debbie Hall, a mother-in-law Manoka McClung, a brother-in-law Derek McClung and wife Jenny and their children Josh and Corey. A funeral service will be held Saturday May 18, 2019 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating assisted by the Rev. William Hartsfield. The family will receive their friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will also receive their friends from 12:30 PM until 1:00 PM on Monday May 20, 2019 at Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, WV The interment will take place at 2:00 PM on Monday May 20, 2019 in the Evergreen Cemetery North in Parkersburg, WV. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Mr. Hawley's name be made to the American Cancer Society at P.O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or Mountain Regional Hospice at P.O. Betty was my classmate from grade 6 at Watson to Graduation from CHS, c/o 1971. She was very quiet, yet very friendly.
I saw her several times, after her return to Covington, usually at church. She was very spiritual and loved worship and praise.
My condolences 🙏🏽 and prayers to her entire Family.
