Martha Lou Herman, 83, of 4680 Sam Snead Highway, died Friday, February 17, 2017, at Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem. Miss Herman was born September 9, 1933, in Bath County a daughter of the late Morris and Rebecca Cauthorn Herman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her Brother, Charles Herman, and her Sister, Mary Hart. She was a teacher in the Bath County school system for over 40 years. She was a longtime member of the Healing Springs Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday school, played the organ and sang in the choir. Surviving are four nieces, Becky LaFountain and her husband, Mark, and Kathy Vaught and her husband, Ron, of Hot Springs and Elizabeth Pritt and her husband, Terry, of Healing Springs, and Susie Hart of Elm Park, NC; two nephews, Chuck Herman of Hot Springs and Chip Herman of Blacksburg; several great nieces and great nephews including Mary Jo LaFountain. The funeral service will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 AM in the Healing Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. John Klink Jr. officiating. Interment will be made in the Union Chapel Church Cemetery. The family will receive their friends Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until service time at the Healing Springs Baptist Church. The family suggests that donations in Miss Herman's name be made to the Healing Springs Baptist Church; 4697 Sam Snead Highway; Hot Springs, VA 24445.
