MARY FOLKS Mary Lockhard Folks, 84, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor. Mrs. Folks was a resident of Oak Street in Covington for most of her life. She was born February 7, 1925 in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Walter Scott and Susanna Bookman Lockard. Mrs. Folks , along with her husband, owned and operated the former Folks Grocery Store on Alleghany Ave. for over 30 years. She was a member of Mallow Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Folks was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde C. Folks in 1997 and also by a bother Walter "Sonny" Lockard , and by two sisters, Kitty Mackey and Ruth Hensley. Surviving are two sons, Skip Folks and his wife, Pam of Covington and Danny Folks and his wife, Kathy of Christiansburg; five grandchildren, Mark and Cassi Folks of Roanoke; Kristen and Jason McNamara of Roanoke; Stacy and Aaron Dickenson , Kayla Folks and Tyler Folks, all of Knoxville, TN; three great grandchildren, Sarah Dickenson of Knoxville; Braelyn Folks and Cohen Folks, both of Roanoke ; one bother and sister-in-law, Charles "Buddy" and Rachel Lockard of Covington. The funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, January 9, 2010 in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Marshall officiating. The interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Tyler Folks, Kayla Folks, Mark Folks, Jason McNamara, Dennis Lipscomb, Kenny Childs, Danny Tyson and Kenny Keyser. Alternate pallbearer will be Stacy Dickenson. Friends may pay their respects at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends one hour prior to service time at Arritt Funeral Home on Saturday and at other times will be at the residence of Skip and Pam Folks at 1103 Comanche Trail. Memorial Information The family suggests that memorial donations in Mrs. Folks' name be made to Mallow Presbyterian Church, 2004 Mallow Rd., Covington, VA 24426.
