RAYMOND SMITH Raymond Hensil Smith, 89, of Millboro, died, Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem. Mr. Smith was born July 28, 1920 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Robert M. and Effie Gray Fisher Smith. He retired in 1981 as a steam trap repairman from Meadwestvaco after 41 years of service. Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II with the U. S. Army and was a member of the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Covington Post #4 of the American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a loyal New York Yankee's fan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalia Schumaker Smith in 1999 and also by three brothers and three sisters. Surviving are three sons, Roger Smith and his wife Carolyn of Riner ; Richard Smith and his wife, Pat of Medford , MA and Raymond Smith, Jr. and his wife Carol of Fort Myers, FL ; three daughters, Judy Cale and her husband, Ronnie of Covington; Janice McClintic and her husband Bill of Salem and Janet Holcomb and her husband Joe of Troutville; 13 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Pat Jackson, Mike Michie, Billy McClintic, Mark McClintic, Chipper Cale, and Teddy Holcomb. .
