Walter Coleman Kincaid, 91, of 506 Jackson Drive, died Friday, November 14, 2008, at Alleghany Regional Hospital.
Mr. Kincaid was born December 10, 1916, at Mt. Lookout in Nicholas County, WV, a son of the late Thomas and Martha Stull Kincaid.
He was a veteran of World War II with the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he was employed with the Owens-Illinois Glass Plant at Kanawha City, WV, for 16 years. In 1964, he moved his family to Covington and worked at the Hercules, Inc. plant until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Covington.
Walter loved gardening, beekeeping, quilting and music. He especially loved playing his mandolin. He was one of the founders of the Freedomaires Gospel Quartet and sang with the group for many years in the area.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Loran Kincaid, James Kincaid and Allen Kincaid and also by one sister, Nancy McClelland.
Surviving are his Wife of 62 years, Glenna Preast Kincaid of Covington; two Sons and Daughters-in-law, Dale and Ruth Kincaid, Sr. of Covington and David and Tina Kincaid of Hampton; two Daughters and Sons-in-law, Patricia and Steve Maddy of Covington and Phyllis and Tim Treynor of Louisa; eight grandchildren, Cindy and Robbie Paitsel, Dale and Heidi Kincaid, Jr. and Pam and Ronnie Williamson all of Covington; Amy and Ricky Swoope of Iron Gate; Brandi Johnson and her fiance', Daniel Staats, of Richmond; Cory Kincaid of Hampton, Heather Treynor of Louisa and Kelly Treynor, attending Mountain State University at Beckley, WV; 9 great grandchildren, Kourtney Woodson, Haden Kincaid, Hannah Kincaid, Clooe Swoope, Carson Swoope, Colbi Swoope, Preston Williamson, Bayleigh Williamson and Brogan Staat and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Monday morning at 11;00 AM in the First Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Sonny Wiseman officiating assisted by Rev. Bill Hartsfield.
Interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Active pallbearers will be Ronnie Williamson, Dale Kincaid, Jr.,Cory Kincaid, Ricky Swoope, Robbie Paitsel, Berkley Paxton, Butch Sizemore and Gary Sizemore. Alternates will be Tim Treynor, Tom McRoberts, Julian Bess, Bobby Baker, Darrell Cogar, Perry Wiseman, Roger Wiseman and Gary Gilpin.
Friends may pay their respects at anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends Sunday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home.
The family suggest that donations in Mr. Kincaid's name be made to the Building Fund at the First Church of the Nazarene.
