Richard Edgar “Ricky” Poage, age 65, of Vinton and formerly of Covington, died Sunday, August 16, 2026 at his residence.


He was born April 12, 1961 in Alleghany County, a son of the late James E. Poage and Jeanette Graham Malashevich of Covington. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ina Mae Clounch.


A talented carpenter and painter, Ricky spent years remodeling homes, most recently focusing on a host of properties in the Smith Mountain Lake area. Outside of his work, he was a passionate car enthusiast who appreciated automobiles of every era, from classic builds to modern models.


Along with his mother, survivors include his son, James Poage of Roanoke; a nephew, Benjamin Dressler and his family of Covington; and other extended family members.


A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the graveside in Alleghany Memorial Park with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. The family will receive their friends from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM at Arritt Funeral Home.


Pallbearers will be selected from friends attending the service.


Arritt Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
