DOC GAINES Rev. William Henry Lewis "Doc" Gaines, 85, of 400 Jonestown Road, died, Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Lewis Gale Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. He was born March 3, 1925 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Lloyd and Rose Lewis Gaines. Rev. Gaines retired from the Loading Department of MeadWestvaco in 1990 after 41 years of service with the company. He was a farmer and pulpwood cutter in the Potts Creek area for many years. He was a Charter Member and Minister of the Sons of God Tabernacle Church on Jonestown Road. In addition to his parents, Doc was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Tucker Gaines, in 1989; a grandson, Andy Austin, Granddaughter, Angie Nicely, step son, Larry Persinger, Great Grandson, Jackie E. Gaines III, Great Grandson, Devon Austin and Step Great Grandson, DeWayne Myers and also by two sisters and two brothers. Surviving are his wife, Marie Wright Gaines of Covington; five son, Larry W. Gaines of Clifton Forge; Bobby Gaines and his wife, Darlene ; Eugene Gaines and his wife, Linda ; Jackie E. Gaines and Shelby Hoke, all of Covington; and Denver Gaines and his wife, Jane of New Castle; two step daughters, Phyllis Sizemore and Gary Creasy of Selma and Mary Cole and Wayne Baker of Covington; 18 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The interment will be made in Lone Star Cemetery.
