Brenda Lockhart Paxton, 77, of Covington, died Friday, September 22, 2023, at Lewis Gale-Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor.


Brenda was born July 16, 1946, in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Ben and Beatrice “Snookie” Rose Lockhart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard “Junie” Paxton.


Mrs. Paxton was a personal caregiver for many years. She was a retired member of the Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue Ladies Auxiliary and the Boiling Springs Senior Club.

Surviving are her sons, Dwaine Paxton, and Ronnie (Sandy) Paxton, both of Covington; grandchildren, Shane (Samantha) Byer, Justin (Kayla) Paxton, Kyle Paxton, Ben (Keryston Hutson) Paxton, all Covington, and Samantha Paxton (Jackson Clayton), of Radford; and seven great-grandchildren.


A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Williams officiating.


Interment will be made in Lonestar Cemetery.


Active pallbearers will be Shane Byer, Justin Paxton, Kyle Paxton, Ben Paxton, Jackson Clayton, Sam Horton and Mike Stull.


The family will receive their friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 To 7:30 at Arritt Funeral Home.


The family suggests that those wishing to make memorial contributions in Brenda’s name do so to: Alleghany Humane Society, 9313 Rich Patch Rd, Covington, VA 24426, or the Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue Department, 5407 Potts Creek Rd, Covington, VA 24426.

Betty was my classmate from grade 6 at Watson to Graduation from CHS, c/o 1971. She was very quiet, yet very friendly.
I saw her several times, after her return to Covington, usually at church. She was very spiritual and loved worship and praise.
My condolences 🙏🏽 and prayers to her entire Family.
