LEONARD NIDA Leonard Ray Nida, Sr. 70, of Covington, departed this life Saturday, October 26, 2013, at his residence following an extensive illness. He was born July 14, 1943, to the late George Wallace and Izetta Wolfe Nida. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Lenny Nida, Jr., a granddaughter, Jessica Nida, and a brother, Jerry Wayne Nida. Leonard loved the mountains and outdoors and gathering at the picnic shelter for the famous Nida July 4th celebration. He loved a bargain, yard sales and flea markets and enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time with family and friends. He never met a stranger. Surviving are his loving Wife of 52 years, Bettie Brookman Nida of Covington; three Sons, Ronny and Rita Nida, Terry Nida and Sharon Tucker and Kevin Nida all of Covington; 14 grandchildren, Britney Nida, Cory Nida, Whitney Nida, Tailor Nida, Kelsey Nida, Dustin Nida, Jerrica Nida, Tessa Nida, Tarrah Nida, Scotty Nida, Travis Bowen, Brandon Thurston, Christina Chavarria and T.J. Chavarria; 8 great grandchildren, Conner Nida, BreeAnn Nida, Tia Ingram, Randy Ingram, Lenny Ingram, Brenden Ingram, Blake Ingram and Will Bowen; two Brothers, Bobby and Phyllis Nida and Alvin and Mary Jo Nida all of Covington; one Sister, Dora Lee and Stuart Johnson of Covington and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald Earwood officiating assisted by the Rev. Nancy Hubbard. Interment will be made in Lone Star Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Wayne Wood, Donald Tingler, Dale Blankenship, Donald Martin, Gerald Wolfe, Andy Gilliam, Jakie Kinsey and Joe Pascarella. Alternates will be Crist Johnson, John Broy and Ed Parrish. The family will receive their friends Monday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Arritt Funeral Home.
