"Doug went home to be with the Lord May 12, 2015. Doug was fortunate to have several uncles who doted on him as a young man and taught him everything a good country boy should know. His mother was one of twelve children,.which could explain why he was an only child. Doug had many careers throughout his life, he served as a butcher, Virginia State Police Office, mechanical production inspector, Department Manager for Kroger, and finally, as a pipe-fitter for MeadWestvaco for many years. He married and had a family, whom he truly loved, and dedicated himself to being the best father, we are so fortunate and thankful for the time we had with him. Once retired, he found the joy of a good cruise and was fortunate enough to visit many places he had only dreamed of before. He was multi-talented and highly respected in whichever capacity he served. He will be forever remembered for his common sense and quick wit, as well a sense of knowing when to speak up, and more importantly, when to not. Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Sheets Wright. His amazing father, William Gray Wright, Marion, who at 91, is still with us, taught his son the value of respect for the Lord and for his fellow man. Doug is survived by his sons and daughter, Phillip Douglas Wright and wife Jenny, Covington, Leisa Wright Weatherford and husband Hank, Richmond, Trevor Justin Wright and wife Brittany, Covington; Grandchildren, Brandon Wright and wife Tiffany, Savannah Weatherford, Dillon Wright, Abby Wright; Great-grandchild, Jeremiah Wetherbee, Special Companion, Cindy Crookshanks, Covington. He is survived by many friends and aquaintenances. Special thanks to the staff of Lewis Gale Medical Center in Salem. Cremation is planned and a memorial service will be held at Arritt Funeral Home in Covington, Thursday, May 21st at 6:00 PM with the Rev. Donald Earwood officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name may made be to the American Heart Association in care of Joy Brackman Weeks, 2212 Dressler Drive, Covington, VA 24426, the Lone Star Baptist Church Building Fund, 6100 Potts Creek Rd., Covington, VA or the American Cancer Society, To: Karen Buzzard, 807 McCormack Blvd, Clifton Forge, VA 24426 in memory of his loving mother, Frances Wright.
