Charles Joseph "Charlie Joe" Sr. Deane, 89, of 1308 McAllister Drive died Friday, January 17, 2020, at Lewis Gale-Alleghany Hospital in Low Moor. Mr. Deane was born April 27, 1930, in Alleghany County a son of the late Howard and Pearl Cooke Deane. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Charles J. Deane, Jr., in 2018 and also by two sisters, Martha Deane and Regina Boswell. He was employed in the maintenance department at Dabney Lancaster Community College for 25 years. He was a member of the Virginia National Guard with 43 years of service, 20 years in which were full time Civil Service. Surviving are his Wife of 64 years, Margaret Owens Deane, of Covington; a Son and Daughter-in-law, John and Cheri Deane, of Reidsville, NC; a Daughter, Catherine Deane, of Bridgewater; three grandchildren, Charles J. Deane,III, of Roanoke, Jennifer Deane, of San Diego, CA, and Lauren Reagan and her husband, Will, of Wilmington, NC; three great grandchildren and one Sister, Ann Bryan, of Kelford, NC. In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Arritt Funeral Home.
