Calvin Booth
Calvin Clarence Booth, 84, of Covington, died Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.
Calvin was born September 1, 1938, in Nelson County, a son of the late Clarence and Erma Lee Booth. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Hepler Booth; an infant son, Jeffery Wayne Booth; a daughter-in-law, Diane Booth; a son-in-law, Rick Rapp; and his mother-in-law, Hazel Maxine Hepler.
Mr. Booth retired from the former AET in Covington as a machine operator and had previously been a delivery driver for the Peerless Creamery before it’s closing. He served his community on the Alleghany County School Board and Jackson River Technical School Board, was a founding member of the Boiling Springs Fire and Rescue Department, a PTA leader at the former Boiling Springs Elementary school, and a longtime youth league baseball and basketball coach. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and completing puzzles with his family. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Covington.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Debbie Rapp of Stanardsville, Troy Booth, and April (John) Hutcheson, all of Covington; five grandchildren, John (Kimberley) Rapp of Stanardsville, Victoria Leonard, Hannah Booth and her fiancé Cody Cook of Clifton Forge, Brandon Hutcheson, and Zachary Hutcheson, both of Covington; three great-grandchildren, Alley Rapp, Tyler Rapp, and Selina Cook; two sisters, Earleene Childers of Ohio, and Ovella Roberson of Georgia; a brother in law, Bill (Mary) Hepler of Florida; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 4, 2023 at 1:00 PM in Lonestar Cemetery with the Rev. Dean Bowser officiating.

So many fond memories of my brother-in-law. Sonny will forever be cherished in my heart as a mentor, who showed a young man how to live a proper life. I'm certain that as a Christian he is now with the love of his life, his wife Rita Faye. May God be with family members and comfort them in the days to come.
