Louis Edward Burns, age 73, of Alleghany County, died peacefully surrounded by his family at Lewis Gale Salem Hospital on Sunday, July 30th, 2023.

Louis was full of faith and his family is assured that he is at peace in the heavens above. He was a member of Dunlap Christian Church. Louis worked at the Greenbrier for a number of years, where he thoroughly enjoyed maintaining the lawns and watching golf. He was an avid golfer and would frequently take golfing trips with his close friends before his health declined. Along with golfing, Louis was a walker.

He loved taking walks wherever he was and often surrounded by his family. Louis was a very outgoing person. He never met a stranger. Usually, he was found chatting about golf with someone at a local restaurant and cracking jokes with his friends and family. He was an animal lover. If there was a cat or dog near him, you best believe he was petting it. His kind heart showed through his love for animals and people. He was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed.

Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Denzil Burns and Alice Burns of Alleghany County and baby brother.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Burns. His two daughters, Kimley Myers and husband John Myers, Tanya Veras and husband Rayvi Veras. Four grandchildren, Kara Myers, Emily Myers, Sophia Veras, and Samuel Veras. His brother, Delmas Burns and wife Jackie, and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. A special survivor is his dog companion, Peanut.

A private graveside will be held Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Burns Family Cemetery.

The family receive their friends on Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 at Arritt Funeral Home.
